Women in Computer Science (the official ACM-W chapter at Johns Hopkins) is a support group and professional resource for women/non-binary individuals in computing.
Check out our guide below to learn more and get involved!
Women in CS (WiCS) is for women/non-binary indiduals, as well as other underrepresented groups in tech (and allies!), who are involved in CS—whether it’s major, minoring, or seriously considering majoring/minoring.
We focus on:
Our events often include:
and always include:
Three main things:
You can also (but don’t have to):
Everyone is welcome to join our group/mailing list and attend our general events, but members get:
Active members additionally get:
To become a member of WiCS, come to three of our events. During/after your third event, let the chair or vice chair know and one of them will add you to our site and give database/lounge access.
To remain an active member, come to at least two events each semester. (Remind the chair or vice chair during/after your second event to make sure your name is on the active members list for the current semester!)
Membership in WiCS automatically grants you membership in the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the other undergraduate CS organization on campus.
Note: ACM is a more “general CS” group (less discussion of interview tips, workplace environments, etc. and more speakers, including our CS faculty, who talk about specialized fields).
WiCS and ACM collaborate on a ton of events, including:
To stay up-to-date, check out our Events resources. And feel free to ask our WiCS boards about ACM!
